free stuff

anyway, another place to score some interesting free stuff is Finney's Friday Free Stuff. it's a random segment on the channel 7 news in the bay area. every friday mr. finney gives away some random stuff. all you have to do is send in a self addressed stamped envelope and voila! a few weeks later you have a coupon for whatever random thing they were giving away that week.

a couple of months back the freebie item was string cheese. i like cheese more than the average person. i don't know why. i'm guessing that it's genetic but i really have no way of knowing this for sure. hahaha... so i sent in my obligatory sase and *poof* a couple of weeks later i had my coupon for free string cheese. i was excited by the coupon but i am also a lazy bum so i put it in my purse and told myself to remember to pick it up the next time i was at the grocery store. fast forward a couple of months... to december 30...

oh yeah! that coupon is still in my purse! hmmm... wonder when it expires... OH! december 31st! better go get my cheese! so i headed to the store, coupon in hand and proceeded to purchase a 36 pack of string cheese for free! that's a lot o cheese. even the clerk commented on the freeness and the quantity of cheese. she even gave me the tip that string cheese fares well in the freezer. i shall try it out! and if you want some string cheese please come over and partake in some. i like to share. =)

they're tiny flower candle holders! i got them for $5 at illuminations (half off). before you tell me that is expensive, let me tell you that my friend bought their mini jar candles for $8 each! crazy.

mini daruma

daruma
Originally uploaded by itslynzee.

awhile back i headed up to the city with my cuz to check out a sale at the lab. all of the proceeds were to benefit this small collaborative arts space. i was excited because hoarding craft supplies is one of my favorite pastimes!

we arrived to discover that the sale was a crazy hodgepodge of craft supplies. i picked up a big skein of yarn, large lump of clay, flourescent chalk, and a mini daruma! the mini daruma was sitting amongst a few other random japanese items (a makeup sponge and other cosmetic items). who knows how they came to be there, but i thought... how can i be japanese and not own a daruma? so i put it in my bag and headed home with him.

all my purchased items were 50% off the marked price so i think he ended up being something crazy like 50 cents.

over thanksgiving weekend i hauled my sister in the kidnap van* to visit the town on the other side of the mountain range (livermore). the reason? craiglist furniture of course!

i scored this set with four chairs and an extension leaf for $85. i love it! unfortunately it is very VERY heavy. anyone want to help me carry it up the stairs to my place? i live on third floor. =p

antique chairs

i'm not really sure what makes something an antique. something about an item being old. old is relative though isn't it?

these chairs are a craigslist find. for freeeee! isn't that nice? thank you mr. craigslister!

when i was unloading the chairs from my car i ran into one of my neighbors in the garage. "did you go antiquing?" he asked. "nope" i replied. "just picking up some old stuff that someone didn't want!"
